US&S Model HC-81 Rail Road Flashers

Here is an animation of my recently acquired US&S Model HC-81 Rail Road Flashers. The lenses are poly 8 inch, soon to be replaced with glass. The housings are cast iron and very heavy! What I find very interesting about these lights is...THEY ARE 12 volt DC powered! That way they will still work if there is an AC outage off battery power. The bulbs are single pole car back up light bulbs. The relay flasher is a triple pole double throw. Between the two magnetic coils is a rod with washers on it. Speed is controlled by the electrical resistance of the washers. To control the rate of flash, you can either add, or remove washers. A very interesting signal!
